Halloween is my absolute favorite day of the year. It’s like the annual high fashion show for all things spooky and stylish. It’s such a big deal for me that I even celebrate my birthday a few days before it, just to keep the Halloween spirit going for as long as possible.

Now, let me set the record straight: Halloween is THE best day of the year. I know, I know, some people might argue that National Old Stuff Day or Global Kinetic Sand Day could give it a run for its money, but come on, those don’t hold a candle to the sheer magic of October 31st.

Think about it, what other day can bring out the wild side in all of us? We get to throw theme parties, rock elaborate costumes, and indulge in spooky movie marathons. It’s a fashionista’s dream come true! That’s why I’ve turned every nook and cranny of my small apartment into a shrine to the wonders of Halloween. I’ve even dedicated a whole 3 square inches of my body with a tattoo of a devilishly grinning jack-o’-lantern. Talk about commitment to the cause!

Okay, let’s rewind to two years ago when something magical happened. It was my 32nd birthday and, thanks to the pandemic, celebrations were a bit muted. But my partner, bless their heart, decided to make it unforgettable. I woke up to a living room transformed into the spookiest wonderland imaginable. There were pumpkins of all shapes, colors, and sizes, cardboard gravestones, and a peculiar creature that looked like a raven had a wild night out with a bat. It was like Christmas, but with a seriously dark and twisted side. It lifted my spirits and banished the clouds of my depression like a magical spell.

Since then, we’ve never taken down the Halloween decorations. Our home has become a perpetual haunted house, and I couldn’t be happier. Every room has its own unique touch of eerie elegance. Take our living room, for example. It’s dominated by a cardboard gravestone, complete with a tiny skeleton buddy who has a pumpkin for a head. It’s quirky, it’s weird, but it’s my strange little focal point. And I can’t resist making a terrible dad joke about “hocus pocus” and “focus” every time I lay eyes on it.

My love affair with Halloween started way before my partner turned our home into a spooky sanctuary. My mother was my biggest cheerleader in embracing this bewitching holiday. She would sew me the most elaborate costumes and bake pumpkin-shaped birthday cakes that tasted like pure autumnal bliss. She even crocheted some absolutely stunning Halloween-themed pieces for me. One of my favorites is a ghostly design that stands proudly on our console, surrounded by other seasonal items. And then there are the soft pumpkins made from yarn and clove sticks. They bring a touch of cozy magic to our space.

And we haven’t stopped at decorating just the rooms. Even our bathroom has a flair for the frightful. We proudly display a Bath & Body Works Halloween hand soap on our counter, because, hey, every aspect of our lives can use a little spookiness, right? Those scented plug-ins they make are something else, and the tiny haunted carriage on the ghost doily is pure genius.

But my love for Halloween doesn’t stop at our home. Oh no, I’ve taken it a step further. As someone who’s always up for an impulsive tattoo, I walked into a tattoo shop one day without a clue what I wanted. And then it hit me like a bolt of witchy lightning: why not immortalize my adoration for the best day of the year with a jack-o’-lantern tattoo? And that’s exactly what I did. Now, every time I look at my calf, I’m reminded of the mystical allure of Halloween.

So, my fellow fashion enthusiasts, embrace the supernatural style of Halloween. Let your creativity run wild and your spirit soar. Whether it’s transforming your home into a haunted kingdom or wearing your love for this bewitching day on your skin, dare to be different, daring, and utterly fabulous. Happy haunting!
